The night is short. The alarm clock goes off at 2:30 AM - in the middle of the night. The airport shuttle bus is already waiting outside the door, and after all the travelers have boarded (a German tour group and another family with children), we leave the Best Western Goldrush Inn and start towards the airport shortly after 3, which is only a few minutes away.
There is yawning emptiness around here. At this time, not much is happening. Since I already checked in online, we just need to check our bags and pass through security to the gate.
We are flying with a Canadair from Air Canada / Jazz. Boarding starts at 4:30, and I take seat 24A by the window, with my son and husband sitting in front of me. Exactly at 5 o'clock, we take off, and I can see Whitehorse and the dam from the air.
The plane even has inflight entertainment, but I sleep through the entire flight (almost 2 hours) and only wake up just before landing in Vancouver.
The following process is familiar to us from our Hawaii vacation two years ago (https://vakantio.de/abenteuer-hawaii), where we had a similar flight arrangement on the return flight: landing very early in Vancouver and then continuing home after 6 hours of transit.
Two years ago, it was more exhausting due to COVID measures, today it is problem-free. My husband and son want to go to the gate and sleep. I need a coffee and walk the seemingly endless way past the gates to the main hall of the airport, where I immediately recognize the artificial stream and aquarium. I sat here two years ago. With a large latte macchiato, I make myself comfortable on the sofa and chill for the next 3 hours before heading back to the gate.
The connecting flight to Frankfurt is also super punctual. Here again, we have inflight entertainment on our Dreamliner 787-9 - as we already know from Air Canada - and after a movie, I sleep through most of the flight again. Since this is the 2nd night flight, that's a good thing.
Punctually at 8 o'clock we land in Frankfurt.
Unfortunately, I didn’t quite understand the principle of blackout windows, as the window remained in 'yellow mode' (thus all of the flight photos are yellow🤣 ).
A fantastic camping tour lies behind us - and certainly the last one!
Alaska is calling... 🥰😜
.... 'when' is still unclear.
For the statistics:
2 flights (one night flight), 6 hours transit at Vancouver Airport
Whitehorse - Vancouver: 5:00 - 7:20 (Canadair CRJ600)
Vancouver - Frankfurt: 13:20 - 8:05 (Boeing 787-9)
Airline: Air Canada / JAZZ
