Daintree Rainforest - Tag1+2, Walks and Beaches, Port Douglas

Wotae: 11.04.2018

10th April.

The day before, we drove all the way from Port Douglas to Cairns because we were signed up for a tour to the Atherton Tablelands. Since we had already been to this national park on our own, we found it a bit unnecessary from the beginning, but we couldn't cancel it.

At 8 o'clock in the morning, we were at the pickup point on time. The first and second bus arrived, but none from our company. When we called to ask how it looks, we were told that the bus had a breakdown. Since the fault lies with the organizer, we get our money back.

But that also means the trip to Cairns was completely pointless. We drove past Palm Cove and Port Douglas and continued north to the Daintree Rainforest.

View from Mount Alexandra

We had to cross a river with a ferry and then we were already in the rainforest. Our first stop was the lookout at Mount Alexandra.

We spent the whole afternoon walking along different trails and admiring the amazing palms with round leaves or the mangroves. We felt that there was life everywhere around us in the green tangle. But it was great to experience the silence when there is nothing to hear except the wind, sea, and birds.

View of Cape Tribulation
Our last stop was Cape Tribulation. There we spent the afternoon on the beach and enjoyed the sun rays that flashed through the clouds.
At night, it was completely dark because there was only light at the kitchen and the washrooms at the campground.

11th April.
Coconut Beach
We had breakfast at Coconut Beach. It's really a great place to be, so we stayed here until noon.
On the way back, we stopped at Thornton Beach and an ice factory where we tried delicious triple chocolate and mango coconut ice cream.
Port Douglas
In the afternoon, we returned to Port Douglas, where we visited the lookout. In the evening, we went out for a delicious and fine dinner. The waiter laid the cloth napkin on our lap, the portions were smaller but beautifully arranged, and our bottle of wine was kept separately and the waiter refilled our glass as soon as it was empty. The best part was the first dessert since we left Germany on January 15th! That's how you really enjoy eating out :D
