Hello Mexico

Wotae: 05.11.2024

Note: this will probably be a totally boring travel report. Because the plan is for a quiet, all-inclusive beach holiday in Mexico. So just lounging lazily on the beach or by the pool, taking a little dip now and then, stuffing myself at the buffet, drinking cocktails, nothing more is planned (I have no idea why everyone, including Jörg, always laughs when I emphasize this)🤷🏼‍♀️
But since there were indeed 1 or 2 requests and I was almost pressured in Mrs. U.schi G.'s shop (a shout out at this point) to report, I might as well get started😉

First day of vacation, the alarm went off at 6:00 AM😅
At least it was over an hour later than for work. The last things were thrown into the suitcases, and then we were off to the parking garage Platzhirsch. As so often, we booked a cheap parking spot for my car (Jörg only owns the license plate) with shuttle service.
The journey here was without major incidents, just like the transport to the airport. Everything was easy.
You wouldn't believe it, even at the airport everything went smoothly. We were on the list for the flight, we were really checked in, we got our passports back, and our suitcases were accepted without any problems.
At the gate, we found two lounge chairs directly, and we comfortably endured the two hours until boarding.
Boarding and the flight were also quite uneventful. There was a premiere; I had never seen this since smoking was banned on flights: a smoker in the bathroom. First, an announcement from the stewardess that it was prohibited, then a nice, but firm announcement from the pilot that it was in our best interest not to crash over the Atlantic due to a fire. Our plane was supposedly designed so that we would still have 180 minutes in an emergency to reach the next airport; however, that was impossible in case of a fire. From that point on, every potential smoker heading towards the toilet was watched with deadly glares. And no, it wasn't Jörg😅
Upon arrival in Cancun, everything was fine at first. My suitcase was immediately on the baggage carousel, but Jörg's took almost three-quarters of an hour to show up. But it arrived. It's not always a given when flying from Frankfurt.
From the baggage carousel to the TUI meeting point where another couple was already waiting to be taken with us to Riu Latino. Instead of a regular tourist shuttle bus, the four of us got a private taxi. Our driver,... Patricia, if you're reading this, he was at least 1.5 heads shorter than you. I wonder how he could even see over the steering wheel😅 I got in the back comfortably, and he took off. There was hardly any visibility, but he went for it. 70 km/h was the limit; when he briefly started to brake, I managed to sneak a glance at the speedometer. We were still doing 86 km/h. I don't drive that slowly either. But with the road conditions here😳 Ash Vibration (Insider blonde and brown) without lane markings for the entire stretch. At least 'our' little driver knew the roads inside and out and barely slowed down for the many bumps. Overtaking maneuvers in sharp right curves (there was just enough space for one car), a nice lady almost rammed our taxi into the concrete barrier when she changed lanes without looking or signaling, my heart... I decided to buckle up and grip the front seat. One more reminder, our driver could barely see over the steering wheel😅 There wasn't much to see on the drive because it was dark.

At the hotel, we were greeted warmly, obligatory room inspection (our minibar is super cool, included, and the fridge is refilled daily), a quick bite to eat in the 24-hour sports bar and sipping the first cocktail, that was it. After 24 hours on the go and awake, that should be permissible. Buenas noches.
