Day 5 - heading north

After a long and peaceful night (there was almost no wind at the campsite), I continued today around 10. Departing at this time is completely sufficient, as the reception at the campsites never opens before 18:00 anyway, many not until 20:00. The weather was relatively good today, although there was again a lot of wind (which I think is rather normal here), but no rain. At least that's what I thought. A few kilometers before my planned destination, it started raining again. Since I didn't feel like setting up the tent in the rain or on a wet field, I continued my journey with the hope that the weather would improve - luckily, the plan worked out for me. About 100km and an hour later, I found a campsite in Överkalix, everything here was dry and no rain.

The campsite is probably only a few kilometers before the Arctic Circle, so it definitely won't get dark here 😉 But I have to say that it hasn't gotten dark the past few nights as far as I can tell. Thanks to the sleep mask, you don't notice much of it anyway. However, in my opinion, you couldn't sleep at all without it.

Today, there were some stunning panoramic views in some places. But I'm afraid that this may not be apparent from the photos, you probably need a better camera (and more time) for that. Since my phone is no longer functional, all the photos visible here were taken with the GoPro.

Maybe a few general words about the weather: It's really cold here. Damn cold even. I don't think it was more than 5°C today. I'm appropriately dressed on the motorcycle, so you don't notice it that much, but when you walk around in the evening with long pants, a sweater, and a jacket, and the wind is blowing hard, it's really freezing 😃 But it probably shouldn't always be that cold, today's campsite even had a pool 😉 But the weather does have one advantage: you can easily buy an unrefrigerated "beer" at the supermarket, and it will cool down to the perfect drinking temperature while driving 😉

The motorcycle still runs (thankfully) without any problems, I hope it stays that way. Meanwhile, the 2000 km mark has also been reached, maybe I can even reach the 3000 km mark tomorrow.

Today's expenses:

€11,- campsite

€55,- gasoline

€15,- food + drinks

P.S. I brought a lot of unnecessary things with me, which I probably won't need for the full three weeks, but by far the most unnecessary thing is the flashlight... I probably didn't think a lot about packing that 😃
