Today we only have a relatively short distance ahead of us, about 170 km. The weather is partly sunny, partly cloudy and it is between 25 and 28°C.
Last night, cute possums climbed on the roof of the BBQ area. We are almost alone - only here we have internet reception - Otherwise, the campsite is deserted (at 9:30 p.m.) hardly anyone is sitting in front of their caravan anymore. It has always been like this so far. On all campsites we have been to, it has been great, no matter what time you go to the washrooms. There are also public toilets everywhere in the larger and smaller cities, as well as about every 50 km on the highways - consistently tidy and always clean.
Many kilometers after the sugar capital Mackay, you could see the sugar cane plantations. After that, dry and more or less green fields shaped the landscape. Burned eucalyptus forests could also be seen. Every now and then we passed farms, where you could sometimes see something colorful around the houses, otherwise you don't see anything blooming here in Australia - even though it's spring. Where water is available, everything is green, especially there are palms, palms, palms of various kinds, really great.
We took a detour to the beautifully described Cedar Creek Fall, just before Airlie Beach. 2 x 30 km detour to Conway Coastal National Park, then another 2.5 km gravel road, our camper doesn't like that very much. It rattles and bumps everywhere. When we arrived there, the disappointment was great. No water, not even a trickle comes down, only a puddle below with stagnant water - really a very beautifully located place. Too bad.
Arriving in Airlie Beach, a lively holiday resort, there is lively activity everywhere. After the last quieter, impressive days, it‘s too much for me. Here the boats, excursion ships depart from the harbor and all sailing trips start. Our place for the night is 5 km away - very quiet location.
