Freddy sets the alarm for 6:00 AM to meet for fishing before sunrise.
Unfortunately, Jannick didn't show up....we hope nothing has happened. After a little dive to get bait, we drink a hot coffee to wake our spirits. We decide not to wait for Jannick any longer and set off around 9:30 AM to refill some water, fill drinking water in 10 liter containers, do some shopping, and head further towards Nafplio to continue our tour.
The drive continues a few kilometers further to find a quiet parking spot by the water. The GPS directs us right off the main road, and after a few turns, leads us back to the main road in the opposite direction...the reason for this became clear to us later. We shouldn't have turned left from the main road, and to be honest...that curve would have been really challenging. We turn right onto a small path and stop immediately. We both agree....we're not going down that road. A gravel-sand path with big water grooves and washed out...no, it can't be that nice. We look for something new. The same game again...turn right and back onto the main road in the opposite direction and then right to the park/viewing area. The view is amazing, but for us, 2 points are really not optimal:
1: close to the main road
2: very dirty and cluttered with many glass shards
We decide to keep driving after Freddy finds another new spot. The drive goes up the mountain in serpentines, the scent of pine and fir....a fantastic route. I love driving on such roads...whoosh right curve...whoosh left curve...uphill and downhill. We come down the mountain and are led onto a path that is somehow...how should I put it...very interesting. We would call it a dirt road. I'm once again glad we have a lot of ground clearance. We're driving and could pick oranges and mandarins directly from the edge of the car, which of course we don't do. But the mouth is watering and the craving for this fruit is there too. The GPS says “turn left.” No, I can't go any further as some plants block the way. Straight ahead is a bit steep. We’re glad that the driver behind us makes it clear that we can take the left path and that it is suitable for our vehicle. Well then...we continue and thank the super nice Greek....oh how nice and helpful everyone is. We drive for a while and then: bam....we see the water and turn directly onto the only road.
The place Nea Epidavros is a tourist town, a dead end with holiday homes on the right and the pebble beach and the sea on the left....wow this place is really great.
We make the most of the 3 days, fishing, fishing, and walking to the harbor. One thing we can say: this place is really wonderful and very relaxing. We experience super beautiful sunrises and sunsets and a starry sky that is truly amazing. A dream come true.
The police pass by us without saying anything. Residents greet us and wave to us...oh man we are in a wonderfully hospitable country....thank you Greece. As a thank you, we collect some trash and dispose of it in the abundantly available trash bins. But one thing we noticed. This place is the cleanest place we have encountered in Greece so far.
