Day 5 - New York

بڵاوکراوەتەوە: 31.08.2016

We followed an insider tip from a local on our last day in NYC and visited the High Line of New York. The High Line is a 2.33 km long, disused freight train track in the west of Manhattan, which was transformed into a park, the High Line Park, from 2006 to 2014.

While strolling along the beautiful green path above the bustling streets between the skyscrapers, you experience the city from a completely different perspective. There are also various artworks to enjoy along the way through the Chelsea neighborhood.

In the nearby Chelsea Market, a food shopping mall in an abandoned factory, you can enjoy specialties from all over the world in a unique atmosphere. It was nice to enjoy some Sicilian arancini again after all the burgers and other American specialties. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time for a real Berlin currywurst...

In Madison Park, we enjoyed one of the many small green oasis in the big city jungle. Just like in all the other parks, New Yorkers gather here with their children or dogs. But Michelle was not much interested in all of that after she spotted the small fluffy park residents.

It's amazing how the many squirrels have gotten used to humans. While they are very shy and fearful in our country, you can easily attract and even touch the squirrels here. And how do I get my wife out of this park again??? :-) After all, Madison Park offers a great view of a very famous building in New York.

The Flatiron Building (German: "Bügeleisengebäude") is a high-rise building built in 1902 at the intersection of Fifth Avenue, Broadway, and 23rd Street in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Due to its unusual wedge shape, the 91-meter tall building is one of the landmarks of New York City.

A visit to Governors Island rounded off today's program.

Governors Island is approximately 70 hectares in size and was a base for the US Army for a long time. The island can be reached from Manhattan by ferry. After a few minutes of sailing, you find yourself in a different world again. If it weren't for the many tourist helicopters taking off and landing from the nearby heliport, you would enjoy an unusual tranquility and idyll on the island.

Before our last day in New York ended, we had a cinema visit on our to-do list. Near Times Square, there are countless huge movie complexes. At the large AMC Theater (25 screens!!!), we enjoyed a fun evening watching "Finding Dory".
