Hey everyone, this week I was assigned to work with the cats. The work there is just as tiring, but I personally prefer it because I simply love cats. It's a lot of work to prepare food for about 55 cats and then distribute it to their respective baskets so that each cat gets the right food. In addition, about 20 litter boxes and the cages in the animal clinic have to be cleaned.
Speaking of the animal clinic, I'd like to show you how some cats look here. Unfortunately, many of the cats here have had a rough time. Currently, we have a cat whose tail has died and needs to be amputated in the next few days. We also have a cat whose ears had to be cut off and one whose eye had to be removed (yes, the whole eyeball). Almost every day, new cats with open wounds arrive. Unfortunately, I don't know how many we can still help and how many won't make it. Behind the building is a larger area where all the deceased animals are buried. Fortunately, I haven't seen any yet.
I especially love two little cats and I would love to take them home with me. Their names are Steve and Wonder. Steve is completely blind and Wonder has one eye. Wonder always watches out for Steve, which is why they should only be adopted together. Even though Steve is completely blind, he's doing great. I just think the two of them are amazing.
In the last few days, some of the volunteers have left, so now we are really few in number and have even more work. The photo still shows when we were more of us. Currently, I'm doing the cat shifts all by myself and that won't change for next week either. Today is my day off and on Tuesday I have an early shift followed by a night shift. Let's see how it goes this time.
For my day off, I treated myself to a hotel again and booked a day trip to go snorkeling on a few islands nearby. Let's see how it goes. I'm currently on the boat on the way to the islands.
Best regards,
Alex
