Oh! Ah! Maru!

We have been traveling for quite a while now and have seen a lot. When you travel so much, you tend to become a bit desensitized and not be as excited about all the impressions as at the beginning of the journey. But there is one city that managed to completely blow us away: Oamaru.

What is special about this place, which only has about 13,000 inhabitants? The answer to this question lies in the fact that during its founding time, the city overestimated itself and built a lot of big and expensive buildings.

When the citizens realized that they actually didn't need such big buildings, they didn't have the money to remove them, so they stood empty for a long time. But now, Oamaru has discovered tourism, refurbished the fabulous backdrop, and created the Victorian quarter. Here you can find not only all kinds of galleries and extraordinary souvenir shops, but also two of the coolest museums we have ever been to.

But that's not all, visitors are offered historical photo shoots and whisky tastings. Additionally, the entire harbor area is designed with Steampunk elements, giving it an unforgettable view.

And we were able to cross off another animal from our list: Yesterday evening we saw around 200 little blue penguins, the smallest penguins in the world. A bit difficult to spot because these birds only come out at dusk, but still our bird of the day.
