First days Australia

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 22.01.2020

I arrived in Sydney and checked out the city a bit and partied at the hostel.

Guess you all know, this is Sydney's famous opera house
I found this and thought it was hilarious
And this guy who wore this thing for noodles on his head. Maybe he is a Pastafarian?

After two nights, I went north to get to Brisbane. Trains and buses here are expensive but there were some carpool offers and I actually found a cheap one for just $20 to Brisbane! (Trains are $90 and buses even more)

The driver, Calum, was a super friendly Aussie and we had a great journey together. He invited me to his place in Airlie, a small place 850km north of Brisbane. I might actually go there because there are cool places on the way, not sure yet.

We drove through areas that have burned, this is how a forest looks like that hasn't been hit too hard by fires but still burned. These trees might recover.

There was a French dude with me carpooling and he was traveling SUPER light!

This was all he had and in this bag is already a hammock?!

We didn't make it in one day up to Brisbane and stopped in Byron Bay which is a very famous beach town. Apparently they get waves that are 10 meters and higher. The beach which I visited that evening was calm though.

Arriving the next day in Brisbane, I met with my aunt, Dani, downtown where she works and dropped off my luggage. She took a break from work, gave me a very warm welcome, and showed me a local park. Then I went to discover the city on my own. Brisbane has a system for renting bikes that costs $5 for a month and lets me use the city's bikes for free. Needless to say, I registered immediately and went by bike!

Brisbane has a huge river in its center
It's also filled with parks, big and small! (Same as Sydney)

Overall, the city is super green, which I enjoy a lot.

I've been wanting to eat sushi again for a long time and finally did it. Even though it was a very cheap restaurant, it was glorious 🤩

Later that day I met with Dani again, went home with her, and met up with Oluf, my uncle. I haven't taken a selfie yet, but I will show them to you in the next blog 👍 I don't have many plans yet for the future, but I will definitely spend some time here.

The next day, today, I slept really well. Finally, a room for myself again, a super comfortable bed, and silence all the time. I did some shopping and will eat great homemade food over the next few days. Today, I started with oatmeal, Greek yogurt, frozen berries, and honey. Later, I went to a couch surfing barbecue. Brisbane has electric, public barbecue places that are cleaned on a daily basis and very well maintained, it's amazing!

At the get-together, I met three guys who were going geo-caching, and I spontaneously joined. It was around this beautiful place!

And that's all from me for now. Oluf has a sailing boat and we will probably go on a sailing trip tomorrow, do some snorkeling, and return the next day - I'm already pretty excited ☺️

Oh, and the heat here. It is 'only' 33°C but feels way hotter. People are honestly surprised when I tell them that I walked 15 minutes to the supermarket at midday. And admittedly, I sweated a lot. When waiting for a traffic light to turn green, I hid in its shadow 😂

Anyway, so far so good,

Laurin
