Mexico - Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve

A bɔra kɛnɛ kan: 19.07.2018

Our third and unfortunately last tour with Aledia took us to the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve. We were picked up at the hotel early in the morning at 5:30 am. Definitely not my time! But what wouldn't one do for a beautiful day ;) This time, we were again a small group of only 10 people, all young couples today.

The path leads us past the hotel zone of Tulum, from there we have to tackle about 50 km of bumpy road to reach our destination. Not recommended for people with back problems. It was quite bumpy! But luckily we are still young :D

Along the way, we stop at the 'Bocca Paila' bridge. Crocodiles are often encountered there. We're lucky because we also see one today.

Expert knowledge: Crocodiles can swim up to 32 km/h and run up to 17 km/h.

In addition, we can observe a beautiful sunrise from there. We continue to Punta Allen, where we can enjoy a small Mexican snack right on the beach. From there, an explanation follows about where our path will take us today, and we're already on our way to the port, where we split up into two small motor boats. Let the ride begin!

First, we stop at a small island where birds nest. Our journey continues and what do we discover again? Dolphins! This is the second time on this vacation that I have the pleasure of seeing these amazing animals in the wild. Really beautiful! Later, we also have the pleasure of being able to observe a sea turtle.

The excursion also includes a snorkeling stop, which I was really looking forward to! However, the sea is quite rough and wearing a life jacket is mandatory. At first, it annoys me a bit because snorkeling with a life jacket is really difficult, but in the water, I'm glad about it because the current is strong and the waves are not easy either. Which is why I'm more occupied with not drowning than looking for fish. There's not much to see anyway, at least I didn't spot much. Thailand was definitely more pleasant and there was more to see. Anyway, I'm glad when we're back in the boat. It was a bit too uncomfortable for me. So unfortunately, snorkeling was rather disappointing.

At the end of the tour, we drive to a beautiful lagoon where you can swim in shallow water. It's getting really paradise-like here. The water is crystal clear, wonderfully warm, and has a beautiful color. We could have been forgotten here ;)

But unfortunately, even the most beautiful excursion comes to an end. After a while, we all had to get back in the boat, which brought us back to Punta Allen, where there was a buffet lunch. A nice ending! On the way back on the bumpy road, we were able to see a few more animals. The crocodile on the bridge was still there too.

Tired and exhausted, but very happy, we arrive back at the hotel in the late afternoon. The tour was of course wonderfully beautiful again! The great pictures and memories will definitely stay with us for a while :)
