Nightlife in Kuala Lumpur is definitely appealing to us, but we have to make compromises with our three kids in tow. This ultimately means that we visit the city's rooftop bars in the early evening and enjoy the sunsets. There isn't much going on in the bars at this time, as they come alive later in the evening. But the magnificent views and cocktails already taste excellent at sunset.
The Helicopter Bar on the 34th floor of Menara KH is particularly impressive - my absolute highlight in KL. Located on a platform that serves as an active helipad during the day, this bar only opens in the evening and serves delicious cocktails and snacks. For me, it is one of the coolest places in the world. Malaysia's capital is at your feet, and the view of the Petronas Towers and other gigantic skyscrapers of the city leaves one speechless. The only downside is that people under 18 are not allowed on the helicopter platform. Our kids are disappointed, but we take a seat at the bar directly below the platform. Even from here, you can already enjoy the fantastic view.
But it is also understandable why kids are not allowed up there. After all, there is no railing, no fixed barrier, or anything like that. Only a poorly tensioned barrier tape and a yellow line prevent you from getting too close to the edge with the steep abyss. But precisely that gives a unique feeling with a free 360-degree view of the Petronas Towers, the TV tower, and many other impressive buildings. The bar opens at sunset and can be closed at any time if a helicopter needs to land for an emergency.
One by one, we take a look around the helicopter platform and enjoy this incredible view. And for the first time, I think that in this case, I would gladly be here without the kids. And I would enjoy this incredible location with my husband. Maybe next time. Our daughter is already making plans to come back with her best friend when she is old enough;-) Of course, she didn't like that she couldn't go up to the platform.
The second rooftop bar we visit has a swimming pool. The Luna Bar is located on the 34th floor of the Pacific Regency Suites. A little less fancy and more worn out, but with a lot of charm, it invites you to chill in the individual lounges around the pool or at the long bar. Thick glass windows surround the seating area and ensure safety. Here too, you have great views of Kuala Lumpur. We should have visited Luna Bar during the day so that my husband and I could take a dip in the pool and chill with Lenny. Unfortunately, the pool closes early in the evening. So we enjoy delicious cocktails and play cards with the kids. Baby Le flirts with the staff, and for all of us, it's "life is good".
