DAY 4

On day 4, most of our time was spent walking through grocery stores and comparing food prices. As a result, we didn't take many pictures. However, comparing prices turned out to be a challenge for us. We were never sure what the information on the price tags meant. Unknowingly, we chose a bag of red grapes. When we arrived at the self-checkout, we tried to scan the bag's barcode but failed. Our confused faces must have given us away because a helpful employee quickly came over and showed us how to scan our item. In the end, the grapes that were priced at $4.55 on the sign ended up costing us over $15. We agreed to remove the grapes from our cart as quickly as possible. To our surprise, this required confirmation from an employee. Slightly annoyed, the friendly employee came over and scanned her card. With some effort and more assistance, we managed to put our bananas and salt in the cart, paid for our groceries, and were on our way out of the store. Just as we were about to leave, the friendly employee stopped us and asked to see the contents of our bags, which still contained items from our previous Walmart shopping trip. We trudged back into the city from our motel, which felt like an endless journey, because the next accommodation was not ready until 4:00 p.m. After 20 minutes, we took a short break in front of our favorite store where we had been wrongly accused of theft the day before. Pleasant. We even ran into the friendly cashier. It couldn't get any better. The run to Walmart, which we had to visit to secure our next meals, didn't seem so long either. Our endurance improved. While Toni looked after our bags at the shopping center and endured the mostly unfunny comments from passersby, Doro and I took care of the shopping. Once that was done, we had a quick lunch, two large coffees, and a milkshake to help us survive the upcoming walk. We had plenty of time, so we decided not to take the bus as planned and to walk to the accommodation that was an hour away. The journey seemed never-ending. We left the city center and passed old houses, run-down shops, and many homeless people, like a scene out of a post-apocalyptic movie. It was quite picturesque.

Well, after those uneasy feelings, we were pleasantly surprised. We tr
