What do you do when surrounded by palm trees? You go where there are even more palm trees. Not quite logical, but let's assume that for now 😊
With a means of transportation that we have had since yesterday for a week, new destinations are now open to us. Let's start with the Palm Canyon, a 15 km long gorge in the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, just around the corner... In addition to the Palm Canyon, there are also the Andreas Canyon and the Murray Canyon, where you can go hiking. We decided to stick with the Palm Canyon and went there.
In this valley, there are hundreds of palm trees, close together. Many are probably hundreds of years old and are deteriorating partly. Here, nature is generally let to take its course. Thanks to a stream that brings moisture from the mountains into the valley, the palm trees thrive particularly well here and grow from the tiniest rock crevices with minimal use of soil. Eventually, the palm trees will surely break the rock and then, in a hundred or two hundred years, a proud palm tree will stand in this initially inhospitable place.
But what none of the readers here can avoid is the recurring topic of hummingbirds. I know, I'm annoying by now, but the "hummingbird relaxing therapy" has not progressed so far that I don't flinch here and there when a hummingbird approaches in the air. Since there were two bird feeders for hummingbirds at the entrance to the trail, which were extremely busy, I had to take more photos. This time, I even got three hummingbirds in front of the lens. So, be respectful and friendly to me and take a look, there are only four pictures...
Already on the way to the Palm Canyon, we drove through streets where the most beautiful houses stood. On the way back, we drove into the dead-end streets and took a closer look. We didn't care if the house belonged to a "famous face" or who lives there. We have given up looking for the "famous" houses, which are usually hidden behind high hedges anyway. We love the architecture and design of the houses and how even the front gardens are designed. We would love to visit such a house from the inside...
But there is another highlight that is more affordable: for example, our meeting with "Domino Pizza". Since our time in the equestrian squadron, we haven't had Domino Pizza anymore. And now the time had come: Delicious "Wisconsin 6 Cheese" (for me) and "BBQ Chicken" for Thorsten. It was quite expensive - 31 dollars for both pizzas for take-out - but decent. Buuuut it was delicioussss 😊
