still 1600 km to the east coast
The journey to Cairns is now half completed and we can say that this journey is by far the most boring one we have experienced so far. We have driven up to 700 km in one day because there is nothing to see here and it is too hot to sit outside in the blazing sun.
We just realized that we haven't really talked about all the 'plagues' here. We thought we would see a lot more snakes and spiders, but so far we have only seen two small snakes and a few Huntsman and Redbag Spiders.
The worst thing here are the persistent flies that constantly want to fly into your ear, eye, or nose.. in the evening when the flies say goodbye with the sun, all the mosquitos come out of their hiding places.. Jenny seems to be allergic to these bites here in Australia and always gets big bumps. We hope that this will stop on the east coast! We sometimes couldn't even eat anything during the trip and had to sit in the car because it was so horrible.
