Okutala Lodge

Публикувано: 19.12.2019

The Okutala Lodge where we worked for the last two weeks is located about an hour away from Etosha National Park.

We stayed in a farmhouse near the lodge.

Our daily routine here in Namibia was very similar over the two weeks.

At quarter to 8, we were picked up by Monika, who also lived in her own small house on the farmhouse and was in charge of us, in a safari jeep. It took about 10 minutes to drive from our farmhouse to the lodge. Once we arrived, we had breakfast before we started feeding the animals. First, we prepared the food for the animals, such as cutting fruit, vegetables and meat, making tea and milk, and preparing dry food.

Then we had to feed the goats, the ostriches, then the parrots and other birds, the rhinos, and finally the cheetah.

We also had lunch at the lodge before driving back to the farmhouse. From about 2-4pm, we usually spent our lunch break by the pool.

In the afternoon, the animals had to be fed again before we had dinner at the lodge.

In the evenings, we usually spent time cozying up by the fire in the farmhouse.

During the two weeks, we had various other activities besides feeding the animals.

We went on a two-day safari in Etosha National Park and camped there. We had an elephant sleepout near the lodge and had shared braai evenings (grill evenings) during sunset.

An exciting and eventful time comes to an end for us today and we leave Namibia with mixed feelings.
