Junction Point

A spectacular natural phenomenon can be observed from the Pointe de la Jonction bridge. At this point two rivers, the Arve and the Rhone, flow into one another. What is special here is that the water has two different colors for a short distance. The different colors can be explained by the flow path of the two rivers. The Arve is a typical mountain river that carries numerous minerals and suspended matter on its way to Geneva. It is precisely the section that extends through the Mont-Blanc mountains that is responsible for the color, for example due to melting snow or rain. The Rhone, on the other hand, rises from Lake Geneva, which means it contains less suspended matter and appears clearer. When the rivers then meet, they do not mix immediately due to different flow speeds.
