8th Day on Rügen (Monday 11.10.2021)

Yesterday was a lazy and rainy day. Reading, playing, knitting! I only briefly went to Göhren to buy a few things. Gabi got lost in her book and I unraveled my knitting again because the sweater would have been too big.

Our landlord showed me a photo of the old holiday resort. Our houses are the ones with green roofs in the front area on the right. They were houses of a company holiday resort. Next to it is the larger area, which is a holiday resort of the Ministry of the Interior. Back then, our houses only had one floor and offered enough space for a whole family with one room. The sleeping arrangements were regulated by bunk beds.

Holiday commissions decided who was allowed to go on vacation. The possibility of taking a private vacation was limited. Those who were socially engaged or worked in an excellent brigade (small work group in the planned economy of all companies) had a better chance. Sometimes a bag of coffee also helped.

Children were sent to holiday camps during the holidays, and in every camp where happiness was regulated by the state, there was also a flag ceremony.

It was strictly forbidden to sail on the Baltic Sea with your own boat, and the beach was always monitored as well. You weren't even allowed to drift away with an air mattress.

Well, times have changed and we are here and have spent another beautiful day.

Für den Osten hat sich so viel geändert. Leider kommen viele Menschen damit immer noch nicht klar.
