Since our daily plans have always been quite packed so far and haven't always worked out as we wanted (except for the impromptu wine and tea drinking with the nice Chinese lady 🍷🍵), today only the Great Wall of China was on the agenda. After much deliberation and tips from the locals, we decided to just go for it. But as luck would have it, we overheard a discussion among a few girls who also wanted to go to the wall (while we were already in bed).
Naturally, we immediately jumped up and ran out of the room (we were so happy to hear and speak German with someone who understands us 😂😂) and decided to go together.
We were lucky that one of the girls spoke fluent Chinese, so we had our private interpreter 💪🏽. It turned out that we had our own private shuttle service, well, he seemed to be a supervisor on the bus? (we don't know what his role was, but he was wearing a uniform from the bus company🤷🏽♀️), all the way to the cable car (apparently the Chinese like to drive private people around in the area during their working hours 🤷🏽♀️😂).
The Great Wall of China itself was very impressive and incredibly exhausting. But it is definitely worth seeing 👍🏽. After 3 1/2 hours, we drove back again, of course, with the private shuttle service all the way to the bus, which took us back to Beijing. Everyone on the bus was so tired that we fell asleep.
Once back in Beijing, we had to pick up our train tickets (we were afraid we wouldn't be able to figure out where to go in such a short time in the morning... IT WAS THE RIGHT DECISION!). After a long search and asking around, we finally found the line, and yay, we had to wait for 1 hour with very strange people. 🤨
Tomorrow we will continue to Xi'an. We are excited about our hostel, this one was kind of meh. The drain in the bathroom stinks, the bed is as hard as a rock, and the internet here is also terrible. And the shower wasn't even warm. Well, at least we have a roof over our heads 🤷🏽♀️.
