I can't believe my eyes in the early morning. It's snowing and quite heavily. So, let's go out in the still sleepy New York at 8 AM. First, check the subway basics. Uptown towards the Bronx, downtown towards Brooklyn. So, let's get on the rumbling metal monsters of the subway. First stop? Of course, Times Square. Nice breakfast and constant rain outside. I struggle through the mud and pay a visit to Empire State and the others. After 3 hours of exploring central Manhattan, I'm really impressed by the size and height of the buildings. It's incredible to have so much in one place... But for now, I'm soaking wet. Back to the hotel (the subway is still manageable) and put the hairdryer in my shoes and use the hotel dryer. After 45 minutes, I'm dry again and the rain has stopped. So, back on the subway and get off somewhere... Brooklyn Bridge. Crossing it is a must, although the visibility is limited. But still great...
Next stop is the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. And suddenly, everything is crowded with people. It's amazing to see the masses between 5th and 7th Avenue... But I have to go back to the Pier 16 to catch the evening harbor tour on time. Since my hotel is right at/on Ground Zero, I pass by the memorial at the former location of the World Trade Center. It's a strange feeling to stand here.
The 9/11 Museum is crowded. I guess the line is at least 60m long...
The absolute highlight comes with the harbor tour. Absolutely breathtaking. I'll never forget it. Pictures really speak louder than words. Fantastic.
So, the day ends with this icing on the cake and I'm pretty exhausted but happy.
Stay tuned
